NBA All-Star James Harden, currently with the Cleveland Cavaliers, was arrested in Houston, Texas, on Saturday morning, facing a misdemeanor gun charge. The 36-year-old guard was taken into custody around 3 a.m. during a routine traffic stop in downtown Houston, specifically at 1800 Crawford Street.
According to Harris County court records and a Houston Police Department spokesperson, Harden identified himself as the driver when officers approached the vehicle. He was subsequently booked on one count of unlawfully carrying weapons. The complaint states that a gun was found in his vehicle, unholstered and “in plain view.” Sources indicate that Harden had been at a Houston hookah lounge with friends prior to the arrest.
Following his arrest, Harden was released after posting a $100 bond. He is scheduled to appear for arraignment on June 22. As part of his bond conditions, he is prohibited from possessing weapons, consuming drugs or alcohol, and must submit to urine testing, as reported by NBC News.
The Cleveland Cavaliers organization has acknowledged the incident. A team representative stated, “The Cleveland Cavaliers are aware of the arrest of James Harden this morning and are in the process of gathering additional information. We are in contact with James and his representation and will continue to monitor developments as they become available. At this time, we will have no further comment.”
Known as “The Beard,” Harden boasts a distinguished NBA career. After a standout collegiate period at Arizona State, he was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2009. He has since played for the Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Los Angeles Clippers, before joining the Cavaliers last year.
