Trump Pushes Epstein Files Release, Urges GOP to Vote

In a sudden reversal, President Donald Trump signaled support for a congressional measure to compel the Justice Department to release more materials from the Epstein investigation, saying he would sign the bill if it reached his desk. The move marks a sharp shift after months of dismissing the matter as a Democratic hoax and comes as lawmakers on both sides grapple with how much of the record should become public.
Trump also pressed Republicans to back the bill, arguing that the issue deserves a vote rather than more delays. Critics, including Democrats, have accused him of trying to run out the clock or cover up embarrassing material related to the longtime associate who died in jail in 2019.
Officials say a growing body of material is already public. Bondi released a few hundred pages that included an evidence list, flight logs, a contact book and a redacted masseuse list; later, House Republicans provided more than 30,000 pages in September and another 20,000 pages last week in response to subpoenas and other orders. Trump has repeatedly claimed that roughly 50,000 pages have already been made public.
But a federal judge has said there are more than 100,000 pages of documents and materials tied to the DOJ investigation, underscoring the scale of the record and the ongoing debate about disclosure.
The White House maintains that enough has been released and says more is unnecessary, while proponents argue that the timing and scope of releases should be determined by lawmakers through the House measure. The central question remains: should the files be published now, or gradually through congressional action and independent releases?
If the discharge petition gains momentum or if Trump directs the attorney general to publish additional files, the Epstein case could see a new round of disclosures. Until then, observers will watch how the political calculus shapes what ultimately comes public.
