Actress Lucy Davis, beloved for her role as Dawn Tinsley in the iconic BBC sitcom The Office, has shared the heartbreaking news of her diagnosis with incurable stage four breast cancer.
Her father, legendary comedian and actor Jasper Carrott (real name Robert Davis), has expressed profound pride and love for his daughter, thanking the public for their overwhelming support.
Carrott conveyed the family's deep emotions, stating that this is an incredibly difficult time for them, and they have been supporting Lucy "in every way possible" since her diagnosis a year and a half ago. "We are so grateful for all the support we have had over this trying time and we are very hopeful for her future being what she wants to be," he shared with BBC News.
He further added, "We are so proud of our daughter and love her so much. The way she has conducted herself through many traumatic health issues is a lesson to us all." Carrott also requested privacy for the family in the coming months, while reiterating gratitude for the public's "love and concern."
Lucy Davis herself opened up about her journey on Instagram, revealing that a year and a half ago, she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer that has metastasised to her bones, specifically her spine, right hip, and ribs. She clarified that the cancer is incurable and it's "too late for chemo."
She also shared a crucial detail about her initial discovery, noting, "The initial lump that I felt, wasn't a 'lump' as such; rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny. I almost didn't bother getting it checked. So I guess I'm saying don't ignore anything." This serves as a vital reminder for early detection.
The news has prompted an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike, including her former co-star Ricky Gervais, highlighting the widespread impact of her career and personal bravery.
