Malayalam actor Dileep was acquitted in the 2017 actor abduction and assault case, a verdict he greeted with the claim that a real conspiracy was meant to ruin his career and life. Speaking to reporters after the court decision, Dileep argued that the conspiracy began the moment ex-wife Manju Warrier publicly suggested a mastermind behind the crime. He said a senior police officer, with a team of police personnel aligned to the accused, orchestrated a fabrication that painted him as the central perpetrator. According to him, Warrier’s remark at a solidarity gathering two days after the incident in Kochi acted as the spark for a narrative that was later amplified by some media houses and journalists ready to support it.
