Adani Defence Delivers First Batch of Prahar LMGs to Indian Army
Adani Defence hands over the first batch of Prahar LMGs from Gwalior to the Indian Army, delivering 2,000 units ahead of schedule as the 40,000-unit order unfolds.
In a notable development for India's defence sector, Adani Defence and Aerospace has handed over the first batch of Prahar light machine guns to the Indian Army, produced at its small arms complex in Gwalior. The initial tranche comprises 2,000 Prahar LMGs, marking a milestone in the country’s drive to boost domestic capability.
Prahar is a 7.62 mm-calibre light machine gun weighing about 8 kilograms and 1,100 millimetres long, with an effective range of around 1,000 metres and a fire rate of 600–750 rounds per minute, according to the manufacturer.
The total order reportedly stands at around 40,000 units, with delivery continuing at pace and the first batch arriving ahead of the contracted schedule.
Manufacturing at the Gwalior complex underscores increasing private sector participation in defence, aiming to strengthen the Army’s light-machine-gun capabilities with a domestically produced option.
The milestone aligns with a broader push to indigenise defence production in India, streamlining timelines and expanding domestic supply chains for critical weapons.
