Six people died after being struck by Kalka Mail while crossing tracks at Chunar Junction in Mirzapur. Authorities order swift relief and medical aid for the injured.
Six passengers were killed after being struck by the Kalka Mail while crossing the railway tracks at Chunar Junction in Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh. Officials said the victims, believed to be devotees, had just alighted from the Gomo–Prayagraj Express around 9:15 am and were attempting to cross the tracks from the wrong side when the collision occurred.
The Kalka Mail was moving through platform number three at the time of the tragedy, according to eyewitnesses who described a horrific scene with bodies on the tracks. Rescue and relief operations were launched promptly, with on-site medical teams tending to the injured and authorities working to identify the deceased.
Emergency teams from the SDRF and NDRF were mobilized to assist in relief efforts, while officials said a thorough inquiry would be conducted into the circumstances leading to the incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the case, expressed condolences to the families, and directed senior officials to ensure swift relief operations and medical care for the injured.
As investigators worked at the spot, officials noted that identities of the deceased had not yet been confirmed. They also stressed the need for pedestrians to use proper crossings and cautioned against crossing at busy tracks, especially near stations where trains are routinely passing.
This tragedy underscores the ongoing dangers of crossing active railway lines and highlights the importance of safe pedestrian access near busy rail corridors, as authorities pledge to review safety measures and strengthen protection for commuters.
