India's First Wafer from Dholera by 2028: A Semiconductor Milestone!

India is on the cusp of a major technological breakthrough, with the nation's first domestically produced semiconductor wafer expected to emerge from the Dholera plant by 2028. This ambitious timeline was shared by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who underscored the country's growing confidence in its semiconductor journey.

Speaking on this significant development, Minister Vaishnaw revealed his personal anticipation, symbolically mentioning an empty nail in his office awaiting this milestone.

This signifies the deep commitment and strategic focus on making India a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing.

The Dholera plant represents a crucial step beyond just assembly and testing, venturing into the complex and capital-intensive realm of wafer fabrication.

The India Semiconductor Mission, a flagship government initiative, is already yielding tangible results. Five out of the twelve selected ATMP/OSAT (assembly, testing, making, and packaging/outsource semiconductor assembly and test) plants have successfully commenced commercial production.

These operational facilities are not only supplying chips to Indian companies but are also actively exporting their output, showcasing India's capability to compete globally on both cost and quality.
