Manipur: Joint Forces Neutralize 2 UKNA Cadres in Churachandpur Operation

Security forces in Manipur have achieved a significant breakthrough in their operations against banned militant groups. Two cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), an outlawed organization, were killed, and two others were injured during a joint operation conducted by the Assam Rifles and the Indian Army in Manipur's Churachandpur district.

The operation, which also led to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, took place at a UKNA camp. The joint forces launched their operation based on specific intelligence inputs on August 29. Surveillance was established over the UKNA camp in Phaibong village, Henglep sub-division, Churachandpur district.

Tactical operations commenced early on September 2, at 5 am.

Around 5:30 am, UKNA cadres opened fire on the security personnel, prompting a swift and forceful retaliation from the security forces, resulting in a heavy exchange of gunfire. Following the encounter, the security forces conducted a thorough search of the camp.

They recovered an impressive arsenal, including two MA Rifles (5.56 mm), one AK-56 Rifle (7.62 mm), one Lathode Gun (40 mm), seven Lathod Grenades, 15 AK Magazines, 371 AK-56 rounds, 601 MA Rifle rounds, and 172 SLR rounds. Additionally, 15 combat uniforms, seven ammunition pouches, five backpacks, three combat bags, and five pairs of jungle shoes were found.

Operations are reportedly continuing in the surrounding jungle areas to ensure complete security. This action comes amidst ongoing efforts to curb insurgency in the region. Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam Singh had previously informed the Manipur Legislative Assembly about the UKNA's involvement in a tragic IED bomb attack in Tronglaobi, which claimed the lives of two minors while they were sleeping.

Furthermore, an arrested UKNA cadre, identified as S Palal Kuki, had admitted to serving as the self-styled finance head/finance secretary of the banned outfit, underscoring the organization's structure and activities.

The state of Manipur has been grappling with widespread violence since May 3, 2023.

This unrest has tragically resulted in 306 fatalities, with another 49 individuals still reported missing.

Such operations highlight the continuous efforts by security forces to restore peace and stability in the troubled region.
