Energy Expert Warns India Faces Tough Times Ahead — Triple SPR and Diversification
Energy expert Anas Alhajji says India's oil crisis is part of broader challenges, including fertiliser, LPG, and helium shortages, urging tripled strategic reserves and quicker diversification.
With the Iran war showing little signs of abating after two and a half months of hostilities and blockades, India faces a difficult situation ahead. In a conversation on India Today TV, renowned energy expert Anas Alhajji explains that crude oil is only the tip of the iceberg. He notes India is challenged on several fronts – including the availability of fertilisers, LPG and even helium – which could impact everyday life and industry in the months to come.
On tackling the oil crisis, Alhajji says, "So what India needs, one of the main lessons of this experience is that India needs to triple its strategic petroleum reserves. That's one lesson; triple your strategic oil reserve. The other is diversity." He also emphasizes that diversification is essential to reduce vulnerability to global shocks.
He goes further to call the crisis "the worst crisis the world is experiencing since World War II," highlighting how geopolitical tensions in West Asia reverberate across energy markets and potentially strain India's economy.
Experts say the situation demands urgent action: ramp up reserves, diversify suppliers, and build flexibility into fertiliser and fuel supplies. Alhajji's warnings underline that energy security in India now rests on preparedness and a more diverse energy strategy rather than reliance on a single source.
