Liverpool is reportedly preparing a substantial £86 million bid to secure the services of RB Leipzig's talented winger, Yan Diomande, as they look to find a successor for the departing superstar Mohamed Salah. New head coach Andoni Iraola is reportedly orchestrating a significant overhaul of the Reds' attack, with a potential £120 million double deal on the cards, including the already arranged signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna for £34 million.
The focus has now shifted intensely to Ivory Coast international Diomande, with Liverpool readying a package worth approximately €100 million. However, the Reds are not alone in their pursuit, facing stiff competition from two-time Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. Adding to the challenge, RB Leipzig is reportedly holding out for an even higher fee, believed to be around €130 million for the highly-rated 19-year-old.
Diomande has rapidly emerged as one of Europe’s brightest young talents. He made a memorable impact on his World Cup debut, contributing to Ivory Coast's 1-0 victory over Ecuador. His impressive form continued in the Bundesliga last season, where he scored 12 goals and provided eight assists, playing a crucial role in Leipzig's qualification for the Champions League. He joined Leipzig just last year from Leganes for €20 million.
While Victor Munoz is viewed as a versatile attacker capable of playing across the forward line, Diomande is specifically being eyed as a direct replacement for Salah on the right wing. Should the £86 million transfer materialise, Diomande would become Liverpool's third most expensive signing in history, following Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak's arrivals last summer.
This summer's transfer window sees Liverpool prioritising attacking reinforcements, especially with Salah's impending departure, Federico Chiesa likely to move on, and Hugo Ekitike set to miss the beginning of next season. The club has a history of successful dealings with Leipzig, having previously acquired key players like Dominik Szoboszlai, Ibrahima Konate, and Naby Keita from the German club, which could play a factor in negotiations.
