Ayodhya is abuzz with the latest developments in the alleged embezzlement of donations meant for the grand Ram Temple. Police have intensified their probe, conducting simultaneous raids at the homes of eight individuals accused in the scandal. Investigators have successfully recovered over ₹79 lakh as part of their ongoing efforts to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud.
This controversy has also led to significant shake-ups within the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, with key officials Champat Rai and Anil Mishra tendering their resignations. The Trust has, however, moved to reassure millions of devotees, stating that all offerings are secure and a thorough, fair investigation is actively underway to bring the culprits to justice.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) delving into the case has unearthed blatant violations of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the donation counting process. These critical violations include the failure to deploy security guards, lack of frisking for personnel entering and leaving counting rooms, and a glaring failure to preserve CCTV footage of the donation-counting process for the mandated 180 days.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the alleged fraud was not a random act but a coordinated theft operation. It involved temple personnel and cash-counting staff systematically pilfering cash directly from donation boxes and discreetly hiding temple valuables during the crucial counting and sorting phases. This suggests a deep-rooted and organized scheme to exploit the generosity of devotees.
In response to these alarming revelations, the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has vociferously demanded a judicial probe into the Ayodhya Ram temple donation case. They contend that the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has "betrayed the faith of millions" through irregularities potentially involving hundreds of crores of rupees. The unfolding investigation promises to shed more light on these serious allegations and determine accountability.
