Tharoor Backs Modi, BJP Taunts Rahul Gandhi: 'Lost 2029 Elections!'

A significant political stir has emerged after Congress MP Shashi Tharoor publicly backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approach to dealing with international issues, specifically regarding the treatment of Indian sailors in conflicts and interactions with figures like Donald Trump. Tharoor acknowledged PM Modi's stance, framing it as being aligned with national interests, a move that has drawn sharp reactions from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BJP was quick to capitalize on Tharoor's comments, using them as an opportunity to intensify their criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, in a video statement, claimed that Tharoor's remarks indicated a growing recognition of PM Modi's leadership, even from within the opposition ranks. Poonawalla pointed out the timing, coinciding with Rahul Gandhi's birthday, and sarcastically remarked that Gandhi "received no gifts" and that Tharoor's praise for Modi showed Gandhi had "lost the 2029 elections and public support." He further dubbed Gandhi a "reel neta, not a real neta."

Another BJP spokesperson, Pradeep Bhandari, echoed similar sentiments, stating that Tharoor's observations highlighted a stark contrast between the Congress MP and Rahul Gandhi on matters concerning national interest. The BJP's offensive stems from earlier accusations by the Congress party against PM Modi for allegedly being 'silent' on the issue of Indian sailors. Tharoor's seemingly divergent stance has therefore provided the BJP with fresh ammunition to attack the opposition leadership, suggesting internal discord or a pragmatic acknowledgment of Modi's foreign policy approach.
