Heathrow Airport is grappling with significant disruption at Terminals 2 and 3 today, following widespread flooding in its central terminal area. Passengers heading to or from these terminals are being strongly advised to avoid travelling by road, as ongoing road closures have made access difficult.
The airport has urged all travellers to opt for rail services instead. The Heathrow Express, Elizabeth Line, and Piccadilly Line are recommended modes of transport to reach the airport. This disruption comes at a particularly busy time, coinciding with the school summer holidays, when hundreds of thousands of passengers typically pass through the airport.
For those who absolutely must travel by car, Heathrow has provided an alternative: park at Terminals 4 or 5 and then use the free rail services to connect to your correct terminal. Travellers are also advised that they can change at local rail stations to reach the airport. The airport has issued a plea for passengers to allow extra time for their journeys, as teams are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, and they have apologised for any inconvenience caused.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another major disruption just days ago, when Elizabeth Line services to the airport were severely affected due to a tunnel closure for safety reasons. Network Rail had reported "major disruption" with services suspended between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow Terminals 4 and 5 earlier this week. The latest flooding incident adds another layer of complexity for holidaymakers and other travellers navigating one of the world's busiest airports.
