On Sunday, January 18, 2026, a bus collided head-on with a car amid dense fog in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, killing two people and injuring ten. The crash occurred near Babu Ganj on the Raebareli-Sultanpur highway, where police said poor visibility from thick fog played a key role.
The deceased were Deepak Singh, 45, a resident of Anni Baijal in Gauriganj, and Rituraj Yadav, 35, a resident of Kaushambi. Both were travelling in the car and died at the scene.
The injured were rushed to the district hospital in Gauriganj, with four in critical condition, police said. SHO Shyam Narayan Pandey said four injuries were serious while others sustained minor wounds. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the investigation is underway.
Authorities urged motorists to slow down and use fog lights, especially on the Raebareli-Sultanpur highway, where dense fog sharply reduces visibility.
