A horrific fire has ripped through a popular pub in Bangkok, Thailand, claiming the lives of at least 27 people and leaving dozens more injured, many in critical condition. The devastating incident occurred early Monday morning at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub, a well-known live music venue located in the Chatuchak district of northern Bangkok.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the pub rapidly filled with smoke after the blaze ignited near the front of the venue's stage. This sudden inferno forced many patrons to desperately flee towards the back of the establishment, near the restrooms, in a desperate attempt to escape the rapidly spreading flames and suffocating smoke. Rescue workers faced a grim scene upon arrival, with the fire having already consumed a significant portion of the area.
In the aftermath, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the site to oversee the rescue and recovery efforts. Officials have confirmed that 27 bodies have been recovered, while 63 individuals were hospitalized. Among the injured, a staggering 22 are reported to be in critical condition, highlighting the severity of the burns and injuries sustained. Families of the victims gathered at a police headquarters morgue later on Monday, facing the heartbreaking task of identifying their loved ones.
Firefighters battled the inferno for approximately half an hour before bringing it under control. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under intensive investigation by authorities. This incident marks one of the deadliest such fires in the popular tourist destination in recent years, raising serious questions about safety standards in entertainment venues.
