India on Alert: 100 New Airports and Affordable Travel Coming Soon!

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu has shared a message of caution and growth for India’s skies. Speaking during a visit to Ranchi, the minister addressed the ongoing tensions in West Asia, noting that while the situation is not an immediate cause for alarm, the country must remain alert. He emphasized that every sector, particularly civil aviation, needs to plan ahead to ensure that global disruptions do not hit Indian citizens too hard.

To protect domestic travelers from rising costs, the government is already taking action. By reducing taxes on aviation fuel and lowering airport charges, the goal is to keep ticket prices stable even when global markets get volatile. In a major win for budget travelers, the minister highlighted that nearly five lakh people are now flying daily across India, and the government is ready to add more planes if demand keeps growing.

The biggest news, however, comes in the form of a massive upgrade to regional travel. A new and improved version of the regional connectivity scheme, known as UDAN 2, is set to launch with a huge investment of about ₹29,000 crore. This ambitious plan aims to build 100 new airports and 200 helipads over the next decade, making flying accessible to millions more people in smaller towns and cities.

Jharkhand is set to be a major beneficiary of this expansion. Residents in districts like Dumka, Hazaribag, Chaibasa, and Daltonganj can look forward to air connectivity very soon. Beyond just building runways, the ministry is focusing on the passenger experience. One standout initiative is the launch of Udan Yatri Cafes at airports, which will serve affordable food and drinks so that everyone, regardless of their budget, can enjoy a meal while they travel.
