The Girlguiding movement has announced its most significant uniform redesign in 30 years, marking a modern shift towards individuality and comfort for its members. Breaking away from tradition, the new rules mean girls and volunteers will now only be required to wear a top from the updated range, with the freedom to pair it with their own choice of trousers, skirts, or other clothing items. This move aims to empower members to express themselves while still feeling an integral part of the vibrant organization.
Chief Girl Guide Tracey Foster emphasized the flexibility of the new policy, stating that existing uniforms remain perfectly acceptable. "If you love that current polo shirt, then wear it until it falls to bits," she told BBC Radio 4's Today programme, reassuring members that there's no immediate pressure to purchase the new range. The redesign comes after extensive feedback, with a June survey of 2,000 girls aged six to 16 in the UK revealing that a striking 93% felt most comfortable when able to choose how they styled themselves.
Angellica Bell, a well-known Girlguiding ambassador and presenter, praised the new approach, highlighting its role in fostering confidence and self-expression. "The new uniform empowers girls and volunteers to embrace their individuality," she remarked, underlining the organization's commitment to reflecting the modern sensibilities of its young members.
