Chelsea Football Club is buzzing with activity as the summer transfer window approaches its close, making significant moves both in and out of Stamford Bridge. The Blues have officially secured the services of Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano, a deal reportedly worth an initial £16.3 million, with an additional £1.7 million in add-ons.
The 28-year-old left-back has penned a five-year contract, promising to add vital competition for Jorrel Hato under new manager Xabi Alonso. This marks another defensive reinforcement for Chelsea, following the recruitment of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace.
However, as new faces arrive, others prepare for departures.
French defender Benoit Badiashile is reportedly on the verge of joining Napoli, following a verbal agreement between Chelsea and the Italian club. Standard Sport understands that Badiashile, who hasn't featured for Chelsea since March and has fallen further down the centre-back pecking order with recent arrivals, is seeking regular first-team football.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the agreement stipulates that Napoli will cover Badiashile's salary for the duration of the loan and holds an option to make the move permanent for €27 million (£23 million) at the end of the season.
Chelsea, in turn, will receive a €3 million (£2.5 million) loan fee.
This move is part of a larger strategy by the Blues to trim their squad before the transfer window concludes next month, with reports also indicating that Liam Delap is available for a hefty £50 million. With new manager Xabi Alonso at the helm, it's clear Chelsea is undergoing a significant reshuffle to build a competitive squad for the upcoming season.
