Nifty Futures Rise as Market Eyes Cautious Start on Tuesday
Nifty futures rise 98.2 points, signaling a cautious start amid global jitters from Wall Street declines and tariff/AI concerns.
Indian equity benchmarks are expected to open lower on Tuesday, tracking an overnight slide on Wall Street as risk sentiment soured on renewed uncertainty around President Donald Trump's tariff policy and persistent fears of AI-driven disruption.
Nifty futures on the NSE International Exchange were up 98.20 points, or 0.38 per cent, up at 25,607, hinting at a negative start for the domestic market on Tuesday.
Asian stock markets stuttered in early trade on Tuesday, with Japan trading higher by about a per cent while Hang Seng softened, and US indices closed lower in the previous session as concerns over AI disruption and tariff policy weighed on sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 821.91 points, or 1.66 per cent, to 48,804.06, the S&P 500 lost 71.76 points, or 1.04 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite slipped 258.80 points, or 1.13 per cent. The dollar index remained near the 97.7 mark after a volatile session.
In commodities markets, WTI crude edged down 0.1 per cent to $66.23, while gold rose about 0.3 per cent to $5,244.96 and silver slipped 0.1 per cent to $88.12. Bitcoin climbed 0.4 per cent to $64,832.48 as sentiment briefly firmed on the U.S. Supreme Court ruling striking down import tariffs, temporarily easing trade-related concerns.
Analysts point to key support levels for the major benchmarks, with Nifty seen finding some footing near the 25,600 mark and Sensex around 83,000. A softer global backdrop and a measured domestic policy tone could determine whether the mood shifts into the positive or remains defensive.
The broader mood remains tempered by renewed tensions between the US and Iran and ongoing debates over tariff regimes and AI-driven disruption, even as policymakers seek to recalibrate trade relations and risk appetite. Traders will be watching IT and financials for intraday cues, along with any fresh domestic policy signals that could sway sentiment.
Overall, the session ahead is likely to be driven by global cues as investors balance the risk of further policy shifts with hopes of stability from a Supreme Court decision that briefly eased tariff fears.
