Legendary actress Julie Andrews, 90, confirms she won't reprise her role as Queen Clarisse in Princess Diaries 3, citing retirement. Fans are heartbroken but wish her well!
Beloved Hollywood icon Dame Julie Andrews has delivered some bittersweet news to fans eagerly awaiting Princess Diaries 3. The legendary 90-year-old actress, known for her iconic roles in Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, has confirmed she will not be returning as Queen Clarisse Renaldi.
Andrews revealed she was approached "all last year" to reprise her royal role but ultimately declined, stating, "I think I'm retired, really, would be about the best description for that." She admitted it "was very hard to say no" to the offers, but felt the upcoming sequel would "flourish very well and wouldn't need Granny going in there at my age."
With a career spanning an incredible eight decades, Andrews boasts an Academy Award, seven Golden Globes, and three Tony nominations, and was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000. Since her last appearance in Princess Diaries 2 in 2004, she has primarily focused on successful voiceover work, lending her distinctive voice to characters in the Shrek and Despicable Me franchises, as well as the fan-favorite narrator Lady Whistledown in Netflix's Bridgerton.
The third installment of The Princess Diaries is reportedly in production, with Adele Lim set to direct the return to the whimsical world of Genovia, originally created by author Meg Cabot. While Anne Hathaway, who plays Princess Mia, was initially slated to star, reports indicate she paused the project to film The Devil Wears Prada 2 , which was released in April.
Despite Andrews' absence, fans remain hopeful for a magical return to Genovia.
