Day 3 of the 1st Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium saw a spirited fightback from the host nation, even as India maintained a significant lead. Resuming at their overnight score of 460 for nine, India added a mere two runs before being all out for 462, lasting just four deliveries. Devdutt Padikkal remained the top-scorer for India with an impressive 167.
Sri Lanka's first innings began with early struggles, slumping to 90 for five. However, a resilient partnership between Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella dramatically shifted momentum. The duo batted through the second session, frustrating the Indian bowlers and providing much-needed stability. Sonal Dinusha scored a brilliant maiden Test century (100 runs off 168 balls), while Niroshan Dickwella contributed a vital 80 runs off 115 balls. The partnership was eventually broken when Prasidh Krishna dismissed Dickwella. Dinusha, however, continued his impressive batting, reaching his century with a reverse-swept four off Kuldeep Yadav. The tailenders couldn't offer much support, and Dinusha eventually fell to Ravindra Jadeja. Sri Lanka concluded Day 3 at 284, conceding a 178-run lead to India.
