Videos circulating online show numerous protesters milling around roads and roundabouts near the major port, effectively halting vehicle movement. The Port of Dover itself confirmed the "ongoing public order incident," stating that it is affecting "all routes in and out the port and the town." The port authority expressed concern for the local community and customers, hoping for a swift resolution.
According to reports from The Telegraph, those involved in the blockade have identified themselves as part of the hard-right group Patriot Platform.
They have allegedly stated that their demonstration is planned to last for three days, raising concerns about prolonged disruption.
Local politicians have reacted strongly to the situation. Mike Tapp, the Labour MP for Dover and Deal, voiced his frustration on Facebook, stating he was "fed up with idiots coming to Dover to cause disruption." He also questioned the protesters' awareness of statistics regarding small boat crossings, noting they are down by 40 percent.
Councillor Chris Vinson, a Conservative group leader on Dover District Council, indicated that the protest appears to be "illegal migration-related," although he noted the absence of placards or banners among the demonstrators.
