The Union health ministry has clarified that several indicators perceived as "missing" from the National Family Health Survey -6 (NFHS-6) Fact Sheets are, in fact, being actively monitored through a range of dedicated national surveys and administrative databases. This approach, according to official sources, aims to prevent duplication and enhance the overall coherence of India's extensive data collection efforts.
Officials emphasized that these fact sheets represent only the initial phase of data dissemination. They are designed to offer a concise snapshot, covering 101 key indicators that highlight India's most critical health and demographic trends. A more comprehensive national report is slated for a later release, which will include a much broader array of indicators, in-depth analyses, and detailed methodological documentation. The core objective behind this segmented release is to ensure that each indicator is reported via the most suitable and authoritative source, streamlining data management and presentation.
For instance, crucial indicators such as sanitation coverage and access to clean cooking fuel are not absent, but rather tracked meticulously through specialized platforms like the Swachh Survekshan Grameen and various surveys conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
