Steve Perry Denies Journey Reunion Rumors: Not True
Steve Perry clarifies that a Journey reunion isn’t in the cards as he focuses on new music—setting the record straight for fans worldwide.
Steve Perry has a message for Journey fans: the reunion rumors are not true. In a social media note to his followers, the former Journey frontman said, "While I’m always grateful for the love people still have for Journey, the rumors about me rejoining the band are simply not true, and I want to gently put them to rest." He added that, "I completely understand why people would hope for that. The music we created together means a great deal to me too. But I’m continuing to explore new creative work and really enjoy working on new music that reflects where I am today."
Rumors about a Perry return stemmed from a recent interview with Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain, who said Neal Schon asked him if Perry might be thinking about rejoining; Cain said Perry hadn't said no and left the door open for a hundred shows. Perry’s quick response, though, is a firm denial, aiming to quiet the chatter.
Historically, Perry was Journey’s third and most iconic frontman for hits like Don’t Stop Believin’, Lights, Open Arms, Any Way You Want It and Separate Ways. He left the group in 1987 due to a hip issue, and Journey has since carried on with other lead singers, most recently Arnel Pineda. The band is currently on a farewell tour, a fact fans are watching closely as rumors continue to resurface.
