Snapchat Introduces Group Streaks and Unlimited Chat Retention

A few new features that Snapchat claims its users have "highly requested" have been added. The first is "Infinite Retention," which, as the name suggests, will keep your chat history intact and stop your messages from expiring, just like a messaging app. According to its announcement,

"We’ve often heard from our community that Snapchatters want to save their chats forever and wish they could build streaks with their favorite groups."

Since 2024, the app has been testing the feature; now, it is being made widely available. Although you could already tap on messages within the chat to save them in the app, this one makes things simpler. You will need to turn it on or off for every conversation.

The other person in the conversation will be notified when you enable the setting, and they can turn it off if they so choose. For example, you can enable Infinite Retention for a close friend and disable it for acquaintances. According to my sister,

It is one of the best features that I am using on Snapchat.

Additionally, Snapchat is introducing Group Streaks, which will enable you and your friends to contribute to a collective streak. You must send and receive at least one picture or video Snap with a friend each day to maintain individual streaks. Because multiple people can participate, group streaks are simpler to maintain. In the event that a Group Streak ends, you can also restore it within a week.

These changes show how Snapchat is adapting to user needs. Group Streaks make the app more social and fun for friend circles, while Infinite Retention makes it more practical. The balance of fun and utility could help Snapchat maintain its strong connection with younger audiences while also appealing to users who want more permanent options.
