Modi vows India will grow powerful, self-reliant on Netaji's Parakram Diwas
PM Modi celebrates Parakram Diwas, praising Netaji Bose and India's path to defence self-reliance, with new export milestones and modernisation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a function to celebrate Parakram Diwas, marking Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birth anniversary, and spoke from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands via video conference. He said India is establishing itself as a resolute nation and knows how to increase its power, manage it responsibly, and use it. He stressed that a weak nation struggles to achieve its goals, and that Bose always dreamed of a strong India.
Modi credited the nation with moving toward defence self-reliance, noting that India has shifted from import dependence to indigenous capabilities. He pointed to defence exports crossing Rs 23,000 crore and highlighted indigenously built missiles such as BrahMos as signs of global attention on India's modernisation drive.
The prime minister also criticised past governments for not giving Bose the recognition his legacy deserved, arguing that a history of the nation should be celebrated with pride rather than divided by political concerns. He tied Bose’s vision to current efforts to strengthen the armed forces and the defence sector.
He emphasized that the government is working to make the defence sector self-reliant, with a focus on innovation and homegrown technology. The remarks came as India continues to expand its defensive capabilities and project a more assertive, self-reliant profile on the global stage. The Parakram Diwas programme highlighted the connections between Bose’s legacy and today’s security priorities, including support for modernisation and strategic autonomy.
