The Super Mario Galaxy Movie leads the year’s box office with a $372.5 million global bow, outpacing rivals and setting the pace for 2026.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie powered to a blockbuster global debut of $372.5 million, including $182.4 million from international markets, making it the biggest worldwide opening of the year so far. It topped Amazon MGM’s space epic Project Hail Mary, which opened overseas with about $33.1 million and domestic estimates around $97.2 million.
Domestically, the film kicked off with $130 million from 4,252 theaters in its opening weekend and reached about $190 million in its first five days, signaling the year’s largest domestic debut and a strong lead over Project Hail Mary.
Industry observers say the strong start could propel continued demand for animated franchises as audiences continue flocking to theaters, boosting momentum for summer releases.
