Sanjay Kapur Estate Dispute: Mother Alleges Asset Concealment Amid Will Battle
In Delhi High Court, Sunjay Kapur’s mother accuses Priya Kapur of asset concealment as Karisma Kapoor’s kids challenge the will.
The Delhi High Court is hearing the sprawling estate dispute after the late businessman Sunjay Kapur died in June. His two children with Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan, have filed a lawsuit against Sunjay's widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, alleging that she forged his will and left out key family members.
Sunjay's mother, Rani Kapur, told the court she believes Priya is trying to seize control of her son's assets and has concealed the true extent of Sunjay's wealth in court submissions. She said she was never informed about any will, adding it was highly improbable that Sunjay would leave his entire personal estate solely to Priya. If he truly intended to leave me out, he would have said so expressly, her counsel argued.
The lawyers for Rani Kapur argued that if Sunjay intended to leave the entire estate to Priya, there would be explicit statements to that effect, and raised concerns about the witnesses connected to the will, noting that star witnesses are closely aligned with the propounder and that fairness might be compromised.
Another major allegation concerns asset movement and governance. Dinesh Aggarwal was appointed director of Aureous a day after Sunjay's death, and he is listed as one of the witnesses in the disputed will, alongside Nitin Sharma, who reportedly acted under Priya’s dictate. Rani Kapur contended that Sunjay's salary was shown as ₹60 crore while bank balances were depicted as only ₹1.7 crore, suggesting wealth may have been moved or concealed.
The case continues to unfold in the Delhi High Court as Karisma Kapoor's children seek to challenge or redefine the terms of the will.
