LeT Terrorist Neutralized in Shopian After Five-Day Operation
Security forces have achieved a major victory in Shopian, neutralizing a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist after an intensive five-day operation. Police issue a strong warning: 'You can run but you can't hide!'
In a significant success for security forces, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, identified as Zakir Ganai, was neutralized in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday. The encounter culminated a prolonged anti-militancy operation that had been underway for the past five days.
The joint operation was spearheaded by the Police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) Shopian, in collaboration with the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles and the CRPF. It was launched based on specific intelligence inputs received from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, pinpointing the presence of militants in Shopian’s Chanapora area. During the search, an intense exchange of fire erupted between the security forces and the terrorist.
Following the fierce gunfight, the body of Zakir Ganai was recovered from the encounter site. Security forces also seized a cache of arms, ammunition, and other war-like stores, indicating the militant's readiness for sustained engagement. While one terrorist has been eliminated, official sources confirmed that the operation remains in progress, likely for area sanitization or to trace any other potential militants who might have been present.
The gunfight originally erupted on July 4, following reports of at least two terrorists being spotted in the area. Since then, security forces maintained a tight cordon and continued their persistent efforts, leading to this successful outcome. The Jammu and Kashmir Police reiterated their stern warning to militants operating in the region, posting a resolute message on social media: “You can run but you can’t hide!” This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of security forces to maintain peace and stability in the region.
