Tamil Nadu Rains Prompt School Holidays Across Districts
Heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu prompts school holidays as the Northeast monsoon intensifies; SDRF teams deployed and IMD warns of more rain.
The Northeast monsoon has intensified across southern Tamil Nadu, prompting several districts to declare school holidays on Monday, November 24, 2025. District Collectors announced holidays in Kallakurichi and Ramanathapuram, among others, as a precaution against the heavy rainfall forecast by the India Meteorological Department. In Ramanathapuram, the District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon declared a one-day holiday for schools due to the heavy rain. The government is urging all districts to take precautionary measures to safeguard students and residents alike.
The IMD has forecast heavy rain in multiple districts across Tamil Nadu, including Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Madurai, Virudhunagar, and Ramanathapuram. Officials say residents should stay alert for possible waterlogging and disruption to travel.
To bolster safety efforts, three teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed to Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli. Two teams are headed to Thoothukudi, and one to Tirunelveli, with instructions for rapid response to any weather-related emergencies.
Along the coast and in southern districts, widespread rainfall has been reported in Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Kanniyakumari, underscoring the ongoing impact of the monsoon on daily life. Officials are advising farmers, commuters, and students to exercise caution and to monitor official updates closely.
As the weather situation evolves, the government continues to coordinate with district administrations to ensure timely advisories, shelter arrangements if needed, and transport adjustments to minimize disruption and risk.
