Trump later described the move as a "very simple ban" but offered no details on its practical implementation. It remains unclear how employees from these organizations would be prevented from accessing White House grounds.

Immediately following the announcement, reporters from both Politico and CNN were still observed on the White House premises.

A CNN crew was also seen traveling with Vice-President JD Vance for an event in Iowa. CNN swiftly condemned the ban, labeling it an "illegal assault" on American press freedoms. The network affirmed its full support for its White House team, asserting their right under the US Constitution to report without government interference.

CNN's statement warned that if the ban proceeds, it would be an unconstitutional infringement on a fundamental right. Politico echoed this sentiment, stating it would continue its fair reporting on the White House and would "vigorously defend our First Amendment rights." MS NOW declined to comment on the matter.

In his social media post, Trump indicated that "other news outlets to follow," suggesting a broader crackdown.

When questioned, he mentioned The New York Times and The Washington Post as examples of "fake news." Jacqui Heinrich, President of the White House Correspondents' Association and a reporter for Fox News, released a statement defending the targeted journalists, emphasizing that the issue extends beyond the rights of reporters to the American public's right to receive comprehensive and independent information about the nation's highest office. When pressed on the timing of the announcement, Trump stated there was "no reason" for it being made on Friday afternoon, attributing it to "cumulative stories over the last few years" that he had grown "sick of." He acknowledged the likelihood of legal challenges following his announcement, remarking that it was "good to point it out, whether it survives or doesn't." Since his return to office in January 2025, Trump's administration has frequently clashed with the White House press corps, while also expanding access for conservative bloggers, influencers, and other media to promote what he describes as diverse perspectives.
