Cherki Blasts His Own "S***" Performance After Brace in Man City Win! 🤯
Manchester City's rising star Rayan Cherki left teammates and fans stunned, giving an X-rated, "so-so" assessment of his two-goal heroics against Crystal Palace. What's behind the harsh self-critique?
Manchester City's dynamic midfielder, Rayan Cherki, delivered a stunning performance against Crystal Palace, bagging two goals and earning the Player of the Match award. Yet, in a post-match interview that left everyone, including strike partner Erling Haaland, bewildered, Cherki shockingly declared his own display as "so-so" and even used an expletive to describe it live on air.
The Frenchman's self-critical assessment came after City's dominant 4-1 victory at Selhurst Park.
Cherki was instrumental in City's win, scoring two magnificent goals within five minutes in the second half. His first saw him weave through the Palace defense to put City 2-0 up in the 54th minute, followed by a powerful long-range strike past Dean Henderson shortly after Palace had pulled one back. Despite these pivotal moments, Cherki was visibly frustrated, particularly by his late substitution in the game.
Speaking to Sky Sports alongside Erling Haaland, who also netted a brace, Cherki lamented,
My performance is so-so. In the first half, we didn't find the space, I played so s***.
He continued, expressing his displeasure at being substituted: "When I see Enzo [Maresca] wants to change me, I don't like that. I need to show them I want to play, I want to score, I want to give assists for Erling.
Next time I want to give the ball around more."
Haaland, clearly amused and baffled, interjected, "Just say what you actually mean. You scored two top goals!" To which Cherki steadfastly replied, "That is nothing. I want to give a goal for him." This intense drive showcases Cherki's high standards, even after a game where he was undoubtedly the star.
With two goals and two assists in the first two Premier League games, Cherki is proving to be a key figure early in the season.
He concluded his interview by saying, "I'm very happy for the win, see you next week.
Pep [Guardiola] was a big story, we will start another story.
We want to prove it and are here for that."
