India's recent Test match in Colombo against Sri Lanka ended in a disappointing draw, a result that has sparked significant criticism from former cricketers and raised concerns about the team's World Test Championship (WTC) prospects. The draw, particularly after Sri Lanka were asked to follow on, saw India's points percentage slip to 51.53, placing them fifth in the WTC standings.

Former India batter Mohammed Kaif was particularly vocal, suggesting that the outcome would have been different if Virat Kohli had been playing. Kaif, known for his energetic presence, insisted that Kohli's 'energies would have tilted the scales' in India's favour. He observed that Shubman Gill's side failed to exude similar qualities, appearing 'ineffective' and showing 'dropped shoulders' as the match progressed, especially on the final day.

Sri Lanka's lower-order resistance, led by Sonal Dinusha's century, proved to be the turning point.

Despite India being in control at the start of the final day with Sri Lanka leading by only 16 runs with four wickets in hand, the visiting team couldn't find a breakthrough. Kaif lamented the lack of intensity from the fielders, stating, "At times, I felt we took things for granted, thinking, 'Just keep bowling, it will happen.

The ball is turning so much, it will happen on its own'. We created very few things ourselves.

Our energy levels were also very low."

Adding to the chorus of concern, former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth also expressed alarm, suggesting that "India messed up big time." He highlighted the severe implications for their WTC qualification, emphasizing that with only seven matches remaining, India must secure victories in at least six to stay in contention for the title. The drawn Test denied India a chance to sweep the series and now puts immense pressure on their upcoming fixtures.
