Meta & Oakley Unveil Next‑Gen Smart Glasses With 3K Video
Explore Meta's latest Oakley HSTN smart glasses with longer battery life and enhanced video recording. Discover why they're the next big thing in wearable tech!
The newest smart glasses from Meta are called Oakley Meta HSTN, and they are supposed to have a longer battery life than the Ray-Ban Meta models. The video recording resolution has also been improved in the new specifications. If you haven't used the Ray-Ban Meta specs, they have been incredibly popular. Over 2 million pairs have been sold since their launch in late 2023 and early 2025. They are lightweight, according to reviews, and one model has been compared to the design of Ray-Ban Wayfarers.

If you're riding a bike, for instance, the music is played loudly enough to be heard without drowning out the sounds of the outside world. Although the camera resolution is low, it is useful if you ask yourself, "Meta, what am I looking at?" or something similar. In this case, the frame uses its AI capabilities to connect to your companion iPhone or Android device.
Since batteries only last four hours, the following information from Meta's June 20 announcement will be helpful:
“More battery stamina: A fully charged pair of Oakley Meta HSTN glasses can last up to eight hours of typical use and up to 19 hours on standby. You can charge them up to 50% in just 20 minutes. The glasses also come with a charging case that can deliver up to 48 hours of charging on the go,” it reads.

Athletes and fans alike, according to Meta, are the target audience for the upgraded camera, which can now record in 3K.
“Meta AI meets Performance AI glasses: With Meta AI 🔗, your personal AI assistant, built in, athletes can get more out of their Oakley Meta HSTNs right out of the box. For example, you can level up the competition in a whole new way when playing a round of golf. Need to know how the wind is going to affect your drive? Ask, ‘Hey Meta, how strong is the wind today?’… Get answers to a range of questions, whether you’re improving your game or checking the surf conditions,” it says.

Regarding the name, Meta explains that it is "pronounced HOW-stuhn," like the street at the top of SoHo in Manhattan, and is the name of the non-smart version that Oakley already produces. The limited-edition Desert 24k Prizm Polar option costs $499, while the new glasses start at $399. Warm gray, black, clear, and brown smoke are among the frame colors. Pre-orders for the limited-edition pair will open on Friday, July 11; the remaining pairs will be available later in the summer.
With its non-AR smart glasses designed for action rather than just social media sharing, like Snapchat, Meta's Oakley Meta HSTN makes a strong statement. With significant advancements in camera, battery, and durability, Meta is transforming wearables into AI-powered performance gear. However, users and regulators should keep a close eye on this as concerns about surveillance continue. This is a wearable AI frontier with both promise and responsibility, not just wearable technology.
