Navi Mumbai International Airport Opens with 30 Domestic Flights
NMIA kicks off commercial ops with about 30 daily domestic flights, Digi Yatra-enabled processing, and a plan to scale to round-the-clock service by 2026.
Navi Mumbai International Airport opened to commercial operations today, marking a milestone for air travel in the Mumbai region. On day one, around 30 domestic flights will be operated by four airlines—IndiGo, Air India Express, Akasa Air, and Star Air—connecting NMIA to nine destinations across the country. The first scheduled arrival is IndiGo flight from Bengaluru at 8:00 am, followed by an IndiGo departure to Hyderabad at 8:40 am.
Initial operations will run from 8 am to 8 pm, with the airport expected to handle 15 departures on day one and up to 24 departures to 13 destinations. The operations plan includes up to 10 aircraft movements per hour. Digi Yatra-enabled contactless processing will speed passenger flows at designated touchpoints, though conventional check-in counters will also be available for those not opting in.
The airport operates from Terminal 1 with a runway and has the capacity to handle up to 20 million passengers annually, a figure expected to be reached before mid-2026. The project includes retail and dining spaces curated to be affordable and reflect local preferences. By February 2026, NMIA aims to progressively scale up to round-the-clock services, expanding connectivity for the Mumbai region and beyond.
