Modi: 2029 polls stronger with women's reservation in place

In New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan at Vigyan Bhawan, saying Indian democracy will be stronger and more vibrant if the 2029 Lok Sabha and state elections are held with women's reservation fully in place. He added that the daughters of India cannot be asked to wait endlessly for what is rightfully theirs.
Modi urged citizens to back amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in three-day special sittings of Parliament starting April 16, warning that any further delay would be a gross injustice to women across the country. He told listeners that when the voice of women grows stronger in legislatures, democracy itself becomes stronger and asked people to write to their MPs to support the historic Parliament session.
He noted that the Women's Reservation Act was passed in September 2023, establishing a one-third share of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. He stressed that the amendments aim to increase women's representation even further once they are enacted.
The prime minister framed the drive as part of a broader arc of progress, with women excelling in many fields and deserving greater participation in governance.
He concluded by seeking the blessings of crores of women for the upcoming Parliament session and the passage of the constitutional amendment.
