A 27-year-old Delhi University law student was stabbed to death following a quarrel with his relatives in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar on Friday morning, police said. The incident was reported around 11:30 a.m. Irshad, a first-year LLB student at Delhi University's Campus Law Centre, sustained multiple stab injuries and was rushed to Majidia Maqbool Memorial (MMM) Hospital, where he was declared dead. Police described Irshad as a first-year student and noted that the attack followed an earlier quarrel with the accused family members, which escalated into the fatal assault.
Irshad's sister, who witnessed the aftermath, alleged that the attackers were their uncle Mubarak (50), his wife Rihana Khatoon (47), and their sons Ishtiyaq (26) and a 15-year-old minor, all residents of the same locality. Preliminary inquiries and CCTV footage from the vicinity indicated that the quarrel—over a petty issue involving the cleaning of the surrounding area—had escalated into violence. Police said two relatives have been detained in connection with the case as investigations continue.
Authorities in south Delhi vowed a thorough investigation, collecting statements and reviewing video footage to establish the motive and sequence of events. The incident underscores how domestic disputes can escalate into deadly violence, and investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward.
