Russell Howard Reveals Devastating Loss of Baby Son, Launches Foundation

British comedian Russell Howard and his wife, Cerys, have shared the heartbreaking news that their baby son, Felix, passed away just hours after his birth. The couple, who kept the pregnancy private, chose to grieve in solitude for several months before announcing their profound loss and their new initiative, the Felix Foundation.

Howard, 46, expressed the unimaginable pain, stating,

Earlier this year, our family changed forever when our beautiful baby boy, Felix, died shortly after birth.

He praised the "extraordinary compassion, kindness and humanity" of the hospital staff who supported them through the devastating time, highlighting their crucial role in navigating their heartache.

During their time at the hospital, Felix was placed in a cool cot, a facility that allowed Russell and Cerys to spend precious hours with their son. "We could hold him, talk to him and tell him just how much we loved him," Howard recounted, emphasizing that these moments are now among their most cherished memories of Felix.

Inspired by the care they received, particularly from their bereavement nurse, Lauren, who retrained as a midwife after her own similar experience, the couple established the Felix Foundation. The foundation aims to support families affected by miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, or neonatal death.

Its mission includes funding additional training for midwives in specialist bereavement care through yearly grants, enabling access to resources like counselling qualifications. Additionally, it will provide emotional support and practical assistance, including dedicated rooms, facilities, equipment, and resources within hospitals and maternity units.

Howard conveyed that he and Cerys were "overwhelmed" by the level of support they received and are now committed to extending that crucial assistance to other families facing similar tragedies, ensuring they do not have to endure such profound loss without dedicated care and understanding.
