Hardik Pandya’s comeback: 59 not out and a mindset that shines
Hardik Pandya returns with 59 not out and a wicket as India crushes SA by 101 runs, crediting inner confidence and crowd energy.
Hardik Pandya says a positive mindset helped him return to the field stronger, bigger and better after a left quadriceps injury that kept him out for almost two months. His comeback came in the opening T20I against South Africa, a match India dominated to win by 101 runs. He finished the innings unbeaten on 59 off 28 balls and also picked up 1/16 with the ball, signaling a full recovery from the layoff.
The 32-year-old described injuries as mental tests as much as physical, and he credited his loved ones and self-belief for keeping him focused. "My mindset was really about coming back stronger, bigger, better. Injuries test you mentally and at the same point in time, it kind of puts a lot of doubts... I’ve stood strong, I’ve done a lot of things with grace and that has helped me to become even more confident, back myself and really trust my skillset," Pandya said in a video. He emphasized that he relies on inner confidence and remains unfazed by outside opinions, adding that now is the time to simply play the sport and enjoy every moment on the ground.
Pandya also highlighted how he feeds off the energy of the crowd, using it as motivation to perform at his best. With a key role penciled in for India’s T20 World Cup campaign in two months, the all-rounder stressed that bigger and better would be his motto as he looks to contribute more with both bat and ball. He also noted that gratitude to supporters has been a big part of the comeback, with his girlfriend and family providing unwavering encouragement.
This return bolsters India’s balance in the lineup and sets a strong tone for the rest of the series, underscoring a simple message: when Pandya is at his best, India’s ambitions in the shortest format are hard to match.
