SC Mandates Transparency! All Banke Bihari Temple Donations Must Go to Deity

In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has mandated a transparent system for donations at the revered Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan, ensuring that all offerings made by devotees reach the deity directly. This landmark decision aims to put an end to alleged malpractices concerning the handling of temple funds.

The court's directive comes after concerns were raised that certain sevayats (temple caretakers or priests) were reportedly obstructing the legitimate flow of donations. Senior advocate Maninder Singh highlighted instances where sevayats would cover donation boxes installed by the temple management committee with flowers or other items, thereby preventing devotees from depositing their offerings.

These donations were then allegedly taken away by the sevayats themselves.

Reports also indicated that QR codes for online donations were being destroyed, further hindering transparent contributions. The Supreme Court has made it unequivocally clear that donations must be deposited either through designated, transparent donation boxes or via online channels directly into the temple treasury.

This measure is intended to safeguard the sanctity of the donations and ensure they are utilized for the temple's upkeep and the deity's services, as intended by the devotees. Furthermore, the apex court has declared that it will not tolerate any impediments to the redevelopment of the Banke Bihari Temple.
