Bengaluru’s CBD soaked in 30 minutes as 78 mm of rain fell—April’s heaviest in 10 years, ending a dry spell.
Wednesday brought a sudden deluge to Bengaluru’s Central Business District as rain, thunder, and hail swept across the city. In about 30 minutes, the city logged 78 mm of rainfall, the highest amount for April in the last ten years.
IMD observation data shows Bengaluru city station recorded 78 mm, while Kempegowda International Airport noted only a trace and HAL airport registered 24.7 mm by 5:30 pm.
This downpour ended a parched April, a month in which the city had received no rainfall until today.
The burst of rain and hail reshaped the streets and likely disrupted activities in the CBD, underscoring Bengaluru’s vulnerability to sudden, intense showers even as they bring much-needed relief after a dry spell.
