Telangana Civic Polls Peaceful with 73% Turnout Across 116 Municipalities
Voter turnout reached 73% as Telangana's urban local body polls proceeded largely peacefully across 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, with minor glitches and isolated incidents.
Polling for urban local bodies across Telangana was held in 2,582 wards across 116 municipalities and 414 wards across seven municipal corporations. The day saw a mix of steady participation and some sporadic incidents, including allegations of cash distribution, minor clashes, and occasional EVM glitches.
Turnout stood at 73.01%, according to State Election Commission sources, while rural Gram Panchayat elections held in December 2025 recorded a turnout of over 85%. Polling began slowly in some areas but picked up as the day progressed, with young voters, first-time voters, women, and senior citizens participating in large numbers.
In a show of political engagement, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy cast his vote at the ZP Boys High School in Kodangal of Vikarabad district, before returning to Hyderabad and then heading to New Delhi. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka exercised his franchise in Madhira, Khammam district. A notable incident occurred in Makthal Municipality, where polling in the 6th ward did not take place following the death by suicide of BJP candidate Mahadevappa.
Across the state, a total of 10,719 candidates were in the fray for these wards. Elections were held for 2,569 wards, while 12 wards across 116 municipalities had already been declared unanimous. In the seven municipal corporations—Karimnagar, Ramagundam, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Kothagudem, Mancherial, and Nalgonda—polling was conducted at 2,174 polling stations, with two corporators (one each in Mahabubnagar and Ramagundam) elected unanimously.
Counting is scheduled for Friday, as voters and candidates await the final tally that will determine local governance across the state.
