Guinness Gone! 70,000 Pints Stolen in Brazen UK Heist

Police in Runcorn have launched a major appeal after a staggering 70,000 pints of Guinness were stolen from a depot earlier this week. The audacious theft, which saw approximately 800 barrels of the popular stout disappear, is estimated to be worth around £115,000.

Cheshire Constabulary confirmed that the barrels were taken in two separate incidents involving HGV trailers from an industrial estate in Runcorn on Monday. The first lorry reportedly connected to a trailer full of Guinness and departed the site at approximately 7:55 pm, heading towards the Mersey Gateway bridge.

Just over an hour later, at 9:12 pm, a second lorry arrived, attached itself to another trailer brimming with stout, and left at 9:30 pm, this time in the direction of Rainhill and Watkinson Way.

Detective Sergeant McClatchy weighed in on the incident, quipping,

It is famously said that ‘Guinness is good for you’, but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for.

He underscored the police's commitment to recovering all stolen items, including the two trailers. The investigation is moving quickly, with officers urging anyone with information to come forward.

Authorities are particularly keen to speak to any motorists who were in the Aston Lane area around 7:45 pm and 9:12 pm on Monday. They are also requesting drivers to review any dashcam footage that might have captured something suspicious, which could prove vital to their investigation. The depot, located on the Whitehouse Industrial Estate on Aston Lane, is a packaging warehouse for Diageo, the company that owns Guinness.

This high-value theft of such a distinct product has certainly captured public attention, with many wondering how such a large quantity of barrels could be moved and, more importantly, how they plan to offload it.

Police are determined to reunite the stolen stout with its rightful owners and bring those responsible to justice.
