Baltimore Officer Wounded, Suspect Dead in Active Shootout Near Synagogue

A burglary call in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue in northwest Baltimore escalated into a hostage situation when gunfire broke out inside the home, near a synagogue. Police quickly surrounded the building asSWAT teams moved in. An officer, a 36-year-old with 13 years on the force, was shot in the leg. A tourniquet was applied before he was transported to Shock Trauma, where doctors described him as awake and stable. A female relative who attempted to flee the home by jumping from a window was also taken to the hospital; authorities said she was not believed to be injured.

The suspect was later shot by a sniper and pronounced dead as SWAT personnel cleared the residence. Authorities recovered a gun from the scene as they continued to investigate the sequence of events from the initial burglary to the hostage situation. Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott expressed gratitude that there were no more serious injuries and thanked officers for their response as the neighborhood stabilized.

Officials described the incident as an active shooter event that began with a burglary, led to hostages, and concluded with the suspect’s death.
