Royal Mint's Cluedo Coins: Solve a Mystery, Win a Gold 50p!
The Royal Mint has launched new Cluedo 50p coins! Join an exciting online whodunit competition for a chance to win a rare gold edition. A must-see for collectors and mystery fans!
The Royal Mint, in collaboration with toy firm Hasbro, has unveiled a captivating new series of collectable 50p coins inspired by the iconic board game, Cluedo.
To celebrate this release, the public is invited to become detectives in an engaging online competition: "the case of the missing coin." Participants will receive weekly clues on The Royal Mint's website and social media channels, challenging them to identify "the who, the where and the what", pinpointing the suspect, location, and coin type. Those who correctly answer all three clues will be entered into a prize draw to win a stunning gold Cluedo 50p, valued at over £2,000.
Entry to the contest is free, with the winner announced after entries close on October 19.
The coins feature classic Cluedo suspects like Miss Scarlett, Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum, Mrs Peacock, Reverend Green, and Mrs White.
Select editions even boast the original colours of the board game.
Keen eyes will also spot hidden microtext within the design, listing characters, rooms, and weapons, details so fine they require a magnifying glass to read clearly.
Tim Mulhall, head of fandom at The Royal Mint, expressed enthusiasm, stating, "Every coin we create tells a story, and the Cluedo 50p is no exception." He added that the design channels the spirit of mystery that has captivated millions of Cluedo players for decades. Marcia Lewis, daughter of Cluedo's inventor Anthony Pratt, also shared her pride.
Her father invented the game in Birmingham during World War II, and she described visiting The Royal Mint to strike her own coin as a cherished moment.
Actress Ellie Leach, who played Miss Scarlett in the stage production Cluedo 2, also examined the new coins, calling the opportunity to bring Miss Scarlett "back to life" a fun challenge. Marianne James of Hasbro highlighted how Cluedo has brought generations together through mystery and play.
The collectable coins are available for purchase on The Royal Mint's website starting Monday, with prices beginning at £19.95.
For a more interactive experience, visitors to the Royal Mint Experience in Llantrisant, South Wales, can strike their own simplified Cluedo 50p coin, featuring a magnifying glass over a game board, from October 6.
