Modi: Justice for All Key to Easier Living and Business

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the National Conference on Strengthening Legal Aid Delivery Mechanisms at the Supreme Court, saying ease of doing business and ease of living are possible only when ease of justice is ensured.\n\nHe noted that millions of disputes are being resolved quickly, amicably, and at low cost through Lok Adalats and pre-litigation settlements. He pointed to the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System whose efforts have led to nearly 800,000 criminal cases being resolved in three years, a move aimed at reaching the poor, Dalits, oppressed, and deprived sections of the country.\n\nThe Prime Minister stressed that justice must be accessible to everyone, timely, and reachable irrespective of social or financial background, as this forms the foundation of social justice. He said mediation has long been a part of our civilization and the new Mediation Act carries forward this tradition in a modern form.\n\nTechnology is becoming a medium for inclusion, with the e-courts project serving as a key example of justice delivery in the digital age.\n\nDuring the event, he launched the Community Mediation Training Module prepared by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and announced that the two-day conference would explore further steps to strengthen legal aid delivery mechanisms.\n\nIn a parallel discussion, CJI-designate Justice Surya Kant emphasised that technology alone cannot bridge gaps in access to justice unless it is rooted in local knowledge, linguistic accessibility, and human empathy.
