US-Iran Tensions Rise as Rubio Cites Israeli Strike Plan; India Mobilizes Relief Flights
As Gulf tensions spike, India coordinates relief flights from Jeddah and restarts Oman services while diplomatic talks unfold.
Rubio says Israel’s strike plan triggered U.S. attack on Iran The United States attacked Iran only after learning that ally Israel was going to strike and fearing Tehran would retaliate against U.S. forces, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday (March 2, 2026). “We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action. We knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn’t preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties,” Mr. Rubio told reporters.
IndiGo to operate 10 relief flights to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to facilitate the return of stranded passengers, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The airline plans 10 special flights on Tuesday (March 3, 2026). Air India Express will also resume services to Muscat, Oman, operating six flights from various Indian cities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Bahrain's King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman amid the Gulf tensions. In another development, the Indian Embassy in Oman confirmed the death of an Indian sailor aboard the oil tanker MKD Vyom, marking the first Indian casualty linked to the U.S.-Israel vs Iran conflict.
