India Advances Free Trade Talks with US, EU and More
India pushes forward FTAs with major partners while cutting red tape to accelerate global trade and investment flows.
At the CII Partnership Summit 2025, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced that India is negotiating free trade agreements with the United States, European Union, New Zealand, Oman, Peru and Chile, among others. He highlighted a sweeping drive to ease doing business, noting that 42,000 compliances have been removed and 1,500 laws abolished to streamline processes.
Goyal stressed that lowering trade barriers globally will promote the free flow of goods, services and capital, helping India integrate further into global supply chains. He pointed to existing FTAs with the UAE, Australia and the EFTA bloc, and affirmed ongoing negotiations with the EU, US, Oman, New Zealand, Chile and Peru, among others, to broaden market access and investment opportunities.
In addition to trade talks, he mentioned that the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) could partner with state governments to develop a world-class convention center akin to Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, aiming to host international events that spur investment and business ties.
The minister concluded that these moves are part of a broader effort to boost ease of doing business and fuel growth across sectors, reinforcing India’s role in the global trading landscape.
