The tragic death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma in Bhopal has taken a significant turn, as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has assured her family that the state will seek a CBI probe into the case. Twisha was found dead at her marital home in the Katara Hills area on May 12, just five months after her wedding. Her family has been fighting for a fair investigation, alleging she was a victim of dowry harassment and physical assault.
During a recent meeting with Twisha's grieving family, the Chief Minister promised all possible assistance. He announced plans to write to the Central Bureau of Investigation, urging them to take over the case. This move comes after serious allegations of investigation lapses were raised, including the fact that the FIR was registered three days after the body was discovered.
The autopsy report has added more layers to the mystery. While it confirmed death by hanging, it also revealed blunt-force injuries on Twisha’s body. This discovery has led the family to suspect foul play beyond the initial findings. Currently, a Special Investigation Team is looking into the claims of dowry harassment and destruction of evidence.
The legal battle is also heating up. A Bhopal court recently rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Twisha's husband, Samarth Singh, who is an advocate. His mother, Giribala Singh—a retired judge—had previously secured anticipatory bail. Samarth Singh remains absconding, and the police have announced a cash reward of ₹10,000 for any information leading to his arrest.
Adding to the family's trauma, there are concerns regarding the preservation of Twisha's body. The police reportedly urged the family to take the body, citing decomposition issues due to inadequate refrigeration facilities at the mortuary. The family had been pushing for a second autopsy to ensure no evidence was missed. This case has sparked widespread outrage, highlighting the ongoing struggle against dowry-related violence and the need for transparent investigations.
