Florida GOP Rep. Slams Trump's Immigration Crackdown in New Ad 💥

In a notable shift, Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, representing Florida's 27th Congressional District, has released a new campaign ad directly criticizing former President Donald Trump's aggressive immigration enforcement. This comes just months after Trump himself endorsed her re-election bid, calling her "fantastic" and giving her his "Complete and Total Endorsement." The ad features Salazar stating, "Mr.

President, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far." She further adds a poignant message, "The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today." Salazar clarified her stance, saying, "You can be for immigration what Lincoln was for slavery and Reagan was for communism... I'm not talking about giving them amnesty. I'm talking about giving them a dignified life in this promised land.

And only you can do that." This public rebuke marks a significant break from the former President and places Salazar among a growing number of Republicans who have voiced opposition to some of Trump's policies.

Trump has historically reacted strongly to such dissent, even endorsing challengers against party members who have broken ranks.

The timing of Salazar's ad, ahead of the upcoming midterm elections where she faces Democratic nominee Eliott Rodríguez, has drawn sharp criticism from her opponent. Rodríguez, also Cuban American and a former journalist, quickly responded with his own video. He accused Salazar of desperately seeking Trump's endorsement previously, only to speak out now because his immigration policy is "political poison" for her re-election campaign.

Rodríguez didn't hold back, labeling Salazar a "pathetic rubber stamp for Donald Trump." He asserted, "María Elvira Salazar did this: make no mistake about it. She owns all of these deportations, ICE harassment, family separations, and racial profiling. She voted for it.

She gave Donald Trump the money and the tools to do it." He concluded by suggesting her current stance is a cynical attempt to win over voters just 47 days before the midterm election. Salazar's district, Florida's 27th, has a unique demographic, with over 54% of its total population being foreign-born, one of the highest proportions in the lower chamber. This isn't the first time Salazar has raised concerns about immigration enforcement.

Earlier this week, she reacted to the detention of Luis Galeano, an exiled Nicaraguan journalist whose U.S. asylum application has been pending for years. Salazar emphasized,

America must always know the difference between a criminal and a political exile... He cannot be sent back into

danger.

Despite the controversy, the Cook Political Report currently rates Salazar's seat as "Likely Republican," suggesting she is expected to retain it in November.
